Exited about your upcoming baby shower? Going to stores like Target, Wal-Mart and Babies R’ Us to create your gift registry is so much fun. With your gift bag and scanner in hand you’re off to pick out all the cute baby stuff you’ve had your eyes on since that test showed up positive. But, in addition to cute clothes and toys there are many other things that you are going to want to make sure that are on your list.

The very first thing that your scanner should be putting on your list is diapers. Not just newborn size (baby will grow out of them in no time at all) but the next size up or maybe even two sizes past newborn. Everyone always ends up with more than enough newborn size diapers and you’ll never even come close to using them all before they are way too small for your little one. Babies grow super fast during their first year, so if family and friends are going to help out with diapers ask them to get larger sizes. Oh, and don’t forget the wipes to go with them but make sure that you pick the non-scented, sensitive skin ones. You never know if baby is going to have extra sensitive skin.

Next, make your way to all the baby medicines. I know that baby isn’t going to have an instant cold or start teething right away, but having this stuff on hand a head of time will cut stress later. Scan infant Tylenol, Mylicon Drops (or similar for gas/colic), diaper rash cream and teething tablets. The Mylicon Drops are a must have from day one, especially if you are planning on using formula rather than breastfeeding. There are also other drops that are similar that are all natural and the store brands do the same thing as the name brand. The only difference is that they are much cheaper.

Think of things that you are going to need that can be easily lost. As a first time parent, this task could be a little more difficult so as a hint, think small things like pacifiers and bottles. Also if you are planning on nursing don’t leave yourself out. Scan yourself some nursing pads, nipple cream, a Boppy and even a breast pump. Once you have gotten all the necessities on your registry, go wild on all the fun and cute stuff and don’t forget to let everyone know where you are registered on your invites!
