By this point you are probably a couple of weeks late for your regular cycle, some early signs of pregnancy may be starting such as moodiness, fatigue, or nausea, and if you have not done so already you are probably ready to confirm your suspicions to find out that you are indeed embarking upon the wondrous journey called pregnancy. Congratulations!

Now, wondering what to expect at this early stage? Amazingly enough, by the time that you have even suspected that you are pregnant, your baby's tiny little heart is already beating, pumping out 100 to 160 beats per minute. Your baby's tiny little nose along with his ears and mouth are already starting to form and his (or her) body is taking shape.

At barely a quarter of an inch long, your baby's vital systems are slowly beginning to arise as bones, muscles, and parts of your baby's brain is forming. At this point in your pregnancy, the pituitary gland is already starting to form in your baby. Additionally, a few of your child's vital organs are being created including the lungs and intestines.

So what about you? What changes in yourself can you expect to see at this early point in your pregnancy? That infamous case of morning sickness may be kicking in, or it may still be a week or two away. Eating small, frequent meals and nibbling on a couple of saltine crackers before you get out of bed in the morning might be useful. You may also try ginger or sour fruit suckers such as Preggie Pops which are designed specifically for helping women combat morning sickness. Speaking from personal experience, they make a world of difference.

You may also experience some mood swings. So if you are going from being thrilled about the prospect of a beautiful new life to being worried about your parenting skills, rest assured that those feelings are completely normal and part of your body's way of adjusting to the new flow of hormones that you now have.

The things that you should keep in mind at this point are the importance of taking your prenatal vitamins and establishing a comfortable relationship with a OBGYN. Also, be sure that you are getting enough folic acid which is essential to the development of the your baby and if you have not already done so, now is the time to quit smoking and to cut out alcohol and caffeine, both of which can have dire consequences for your child.
